Steve Wozniak Reports That Prius Issue Is a Big Hoax

During Wolf Blitzer’s interview of Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computers, Steve admitted that the allegations he made about his Prius and unintended acceleration were a hoax.  In his interview he stated that he bet a friend that he could use his Prius allegations to get on Wolf Blitzer’s show – which he was able to accomplish.

Furthermore, Wozniak also stated that other media outlets had spliced together footage of his interview to make it sound like his vehicle was experiencing “unintended acceleration”.  The truth is much simpler – his vehicle has Dynamic Laser Cruise Control – a feature that will “lock on” to the speed of the vehicle in front of you and maintain a certain distance.  The intricacies of this system, paired with someone who may not understand how it works fully, may seem like “unintended acceleration” is happening.  However, the fact is that the system is working as designed.  You can see the full video at Wolf Blitzer’s Situation Room at CNN.com

Toyota Proves Brian Ross, ABC News and Dr. Gilbert Are Wrong

So, I have to admit that I have been caught up in the Toyota Recall information – and with good reason (I do work for a Toyota dealer).  But, I think there is a lot of misinformation floating around the news media.  In an effort to disprove and wade through the confusion, Toyota has successfully proven, that not only is Dr. Gilbert’s “intentional manipulation” a near impossibility in real-world scenarios, but that similar manipulation can cause the same acceleration (and lack of error codes) in almost every other make and model vehicle available for sale in the USA.  You can read more about Dr. Gilbert and the problem with his demonstrations at Toyota’s Pressroom.

It really is a shame that ABC News and Brian Ross must “create” news instead of report it.  Toyota is confident that electronics are not part of the problem of unintended acceleration – and I believe, after watching this demonstration, they are correct.  While I am not an engineer, I cannot see any way that with all the fail-safe preventative measures that Toyota takes in their electronics, that there could possible be a problem.

0% Financing and other March Incentives

Ok folks.  Time to post those great incentives everyone has been hearing about.  First, Toyota has decided to give customers 0% financing up to 60 months on 8 different Toyota models!  The 2010 Corolla and Camry (gas models) get 0% financing which is a rare, but nice treat for those in the market.  What is especially nice is that new 2010 RAV4 and Highlander gas  models are also getting 0% financing up to 60 months!  This is something that has not been seen on these vehicles in over a year.  Also on  the list is new 2010 model  Matrix, Yaris, Avalon and Tundra models.  Oh, and the Camry Hybrid gets 0% financing for 36 months with 2.9% available for 60 months.  All financing deals are upon approval through TFS.

Also, Toyota has decided to put out some unheard of rebates.  How about $3,000 on a new 2010 Toyota Avalon?  Now is the best time ever to purchase Toyota’s flagship sedan.   Included in the rebate is $1,000 on Yaris, $1,500 on Tundra B&C cabs and $2,500 on Tundra Crew Max models.  Rebates cannot be combined with finance or lease incentives and are available from Toyota Motor Sales.

Last, but not least, are some super low – super awesome – lease specials.  With less than $2,000 down you can get a $149/mo payment on a Corolla, $179/mo payments on Camry, Prius and RAV4 and for $229/mo you can get a new 2010 Venza.  These leases do not include taxes or fees and the security deposit is waived by TFS.  Only on new 2010 models.

All incentives are good until March 31, 2010.
